Notes of the Censor

How to read the censor?

The list is divided by US and Non-US, in the sucategory of Holiday Inns and Holiday Inn Express. All the number means the properties under the current redemption categories.

The number in the () means the figure from 2010 Censor. For example:

This means in Arizona, there were 3 properties under 10K last year but none this year. There are 13 Holiday Inns in total during the 2011 survey, 10 in 15K and 3 in 25K. If no previouse figure being given, which means the figure is the same of 2011 compare with 2010.

Some notable facts:

1, In Argentina, all Holiday Inn is at the rate of 10K, same of 2010;

2, In Brazil and India, all its Holiday Inn is at 15K rate, same of 2010;

3, In USA, the number of Holiday Inn Properties under 10K have been reduced dramatically, from 62 to 27. This is an 56% drop in numbers;

4, In the same time, the number of Holiday Inn Express in US and worldwide for 10K both rised. The total numbers rised from 190 in 2010 to 269 in 2011;

5, There are 63% of Holiday Inn Express are in 15K redemption category compare with 56% figure in Holiday Inns;

6, In 2010, I said that ' Take notice of hotels in China. Most of the Holiday Inns at 10K now will see a rate rise in 2011/2012. Especially those Holiday Inns in Shanghai, will be raised to 15K soon or later'. This has become true. Interestingly, all the Shanghai HIs have been moved category after PointBreaks. However, the new Holiday Inn Express built in Shanghai last few years have a large number at 10K, still a bargain;

7, The worst country to exchange your PriorityClub points remains to be the UNITED KINGDOM. With most of Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express at the rate of 25,000 per night. It is outrageous. The average room night rate in UK is slicely cheaper than US and Europe but need more to redeem.

8, It is found many old Holiday Inn Express have disppeared. Who can explain to me what happened to North dakota, there were more than 80 HIXs last year but so few left;

9, It is also noted that many coastal States have more HIX at the rate of 25K in general, same of 2010. Nevertheless, HIX in the major highway route near urban area, and interestingly many Airport area have a higher redeption requirement than those in suburbs;

10, 2010 Censor found that:

The average requirement for one free night at Holiday Inn is 17,700 PC points. The average requirement for one free night at Holiday Inn Express is 17,229 PC points. And the average requirement for one free night in HI/HIX is 17,406 PC points. (Exluding Holiday Inn all inclusive resorts or Holiday Inn Vacation Club)

In 2011, the Censor found that the average requirement for one free night under different brands are:

Holiday Inn: 18,619 PCR Points

(up 919 points)

Holiday Inn Express:

16,771 PCR Points

(Down 458 Points)

Combined: 17,448 PCR Points

(Up 42 Points)

11, Question for future:

Will HIX remain as 10/15/25 categories but Holiday Inn will have 15/20/25 categories in midium term future? It might be possible as last year saw Holiday Inn redemption requirement is on the trend of reaching 20K.

This point made in November 2011 unfortunately become true in January 2012. A redemption level at 20K is introduced by IHG and will be rolled out on 18th January 2012.
